At the close in Sao Paulo, the fell 0.51%.

The best performers of the session on the were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:), which rose 3.64% or 1.33 points to trade at 37.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Bradespar SA (SA:) added 3.09% or 0.58 points to end at 19.38 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:) was up 3.01% or 0.21 points to 7.18 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cielo SA (SA:), which fell 2.44% or 0.58 points to trade at 23.20 at the close. Lojas Renner SA (SA:) declined 2.17% or 0.59 points to end at 26.55 and Tim Participacoes SA (SA:) was down 1.90% or 0.19 points to 9.81.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 218 to 174 and 28 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fibria Celulose SA (SA:) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.64% or 1.33 to 37.85.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.45% to 40.60.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.12% or 1.50 to $ 1266.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.38% or 0.19 to hit $ 49.99 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.35% or 1.75 to trade at $ 131.22 .

USD/BRL was up 0.10% to 3.2637, while EUR/BRL rose 0.01% to 3.6457.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 97.33.
